Hadoop and Spark in Machine Learning: a practical guide and best practices
Ofer Mendelevitch – VP, Data Science at Lendup.com
Machine learning using big data is powering many advanced applications in various industries such as online lending, self-driving cars and precision medicine. Hadoop and Spark are two of the most important open-source technologies that drive innovation in this ever-expanding field. In this talk, Ofer Mendelevitch will discuss his book ‘Practical Data Science at Scale with Hadoop and Spark (https://www.amazon.com/Practical-Data-Science-Hadoop-Spark/dp/0134024141)’ and will focus on practical best practices for implementing scalable machine learning application

Russ Savage is leading the application engineering team at Cask, focusing on building end to end big data applications using the Cask Data Application Platform (CDAP). He believes that the true value of Hadoop and other big data technologies is only unlocked when they are used to solve problems and provide value to the business. He previously worked at Elastic as a solutions architect.
Ofer Mendelevitch is VP Data Science at Lendup, where he is responsible for Lendup’s machine learning and advanced analytics group. Prior to joining Lendup, Ofer was Director of Data Science at Hortonworks, where he was working on large-scale machine learning with Hadoop and Spark. Before Hortonworks, Ofer served as Entrepreneur in Residence at XSeed, VP of Engineering at Nor1, and Director of engineering at Yahoo! where he led multiple engineering and data science teams. Ofer’s book “Practical Data Science with Hadoop and Spark” was published in December 2016.
